Accessibility

Last updated: August 2026

We want you to know exactly what to expect before you visit, so you can decide what works for you. This page describes our building as it actually is, including the parts that don't work well.

If anything here is unclear, or you'd like to talk through your visit, email thenest@snap.je or call +44 (0) 1534 280050. We'd rather have the conversation early.

The main thing to know

The Nest is on the second floor and there is no lift.

The only way into the space is four flights of stairs. This means:

  • The space is not accessible to wheelchair users.

  • If you can't manage stairs, or can't manage them safely, you won't be able to get into the space.

  • There is no accessible toilet in the building.

We're sorry. It's a constraint of the building rather than a choice, but the effect is the same, and we'd rather tell you plainly than have you arrive and find out.

If this affects you, please read If you can't get to us below. There may still be something we can do.

Getting to the building

Address: Second Floor, 18–20 Dumaresq Street, St Helier, Jersey, JE2 3RL

The building is in the centre of town, and the route from the pavement to the front door is step-free. There's no kerb or step at the building entrance. Please note that this applies to the entrance only. The stairs to the second floor are still the barrier.

Parking

The nearest car parks with accessible spaces are:

  • Minden Place (short stay), 7 accessible spaces

  • Charles Street (short stay), 4 accessible spaces

  • Sand Street (long stay), 26 accessible spaces across several levels

  • Patriotic Street (long stay), 10 accessible spaces

Blue Badge holders park free in accessible or standard spaces in Jersey car parks, and in marked on-street disabled bays. Time limits are up to 3 hours at short-stay car parks and up to 12 hours in every 24 at long-stay car parks. At Sand Street you can stay up to 9 hours, with payment required after the first 3. You'll need to display your badge on the dashboard along with a parking disc showing your arrival time.

The stairs

The Nest is two storeys up.

  • There is a handrail

  • The landings between flights are useful places to stop and rest if you need to

  • Once you reach the second floor, the space itself is all on one level

If you can manage stairs but need to take your time, that's completely fine. There's no rush and nobody will hurry you.

Toilets

There's a toilet on every floor, including the second floor where The Nest is, so you won't need to use the stairs again once you're up.

However, none of the toilets are adapted for wheelchair users, and there is no accessible toilet in the building.

The nearest Changing Places facility is next to the Town Hall on Seale Street, a short walk away. Access is by card or fob, available for a £10 refundable deposit. There's a second Changing Places facility at Millennium Town Park, which opens 24/7 with a standard RADAR key. RADAR keys can be obtained from St Helier Town Hall (£5 refundable deposit), Shopmobility St Helier (£10 refundable deposit), the Sand Street car park office, or the Visitor Information Centre.

Inside the space
  • Capacity: up to 30 seated or 40 standing

  • Seating: chairs are moveable, and we can always set out a seat for you if you can't stand for long — just ask, or tell us beforehand

  • Layout: the room is flexible, and we can rearrange it to suit how you need to move around

  • Sound: we have conferencing technology and microphones available. There is no hearing loop. If you'd find it helpful, tell us in advance and we'll talk through what we can do — for example making sure speakers use a microphone, or arranging seating near the front

  • Refreshments: there's a kitchen, a water cooler and a bar. We're happy to bring drinks to you wherever you're sitting

Assistance dogs are welcome. Let us know you're bringing your dog and we'll have water ready.

Personal assistants and carers attend free of charge. For ticketed events, contact us and we'll arrange a companion ticket.

In an emergency

If the fire alarm sounds, leave by the stairs and out through the front door onto Dumaresq Street. The assembly point is the rear entrance of De Gruchy, a short distance away.

If getting down four flights of stairs quickly would be difficult for you, please talk to us before you visit.

We want to be straightforward about this. There is currently no evacuation chair and no designated refuge point in the building, and our team is not able to carry people down the stairs. In an emergency, everyone leaves the same way, on foot.

If that would be a problem for you, please tell us in advance. Email thenest@snap.je or call +44 (0) 1534 280050. We'll be honest with you about the risk, make sure the team knows you're in the building, and look at the alternatives in the next section.

If you can't get to us

If the stairs mean you can't attend, please tell us. We don't want that to be the end of it. Depending on the event, we may be able to:

  • Stream the session live so you can join remotely

  • Record the session and share it with you afterwards

Email thenest@snap.je and tell us what would work for you.

Telling us what you need

You can tell us about access requirements at any point:

  • In the message field of our enquiry form

  • By email to thenest@snap.je

  • By phone on +44 (0) 1534 280050

The more notice you can give us the better, but please ask anyway even if it's short notice, and we'll do what we can.

If you're hiring the space

If you're running an event at The Nest, please share this page with your guests when you invite them. The second-floor access affects everyone you bring, and people need to know before they accept.

Feedback

We know this page describes a building with real limitations. If you've visited and something was harder than it needed to be, or there's information missing here that would have helped, please tell us: thenest@snap.je.
